NH Gov. John Lynch has appointed Bonnie Newman to Judge Dread Judd Gregg’s soon-to-be-vacated Senate seat. As expected and reported, Gregg took the seat under the condition that he not be replaced by a Democrat. Newman immediately declared her intent to be a caretaker/seatwarmer, i.e. she won’t run in 2010 and won’t endorse, making it an open seat in 2010. The Governor doesn’t get to magically grant anybody the advantage of incumbency, the seat stays in the hands of the party that won it in 2004, and everybody is happy, right? Democracy wins again?
I’m expecting any minute now for Rod Blagojevich to go on TV complaining that political deal-making is just a part of life, and that if he was impeached, then Lynch should be impeached, Obama should be ashamed, Newman should be expelled, and Jeanne Shaheen should fire her chief of staff (Why? I don’t know. I’m Blago would find a reason in that hair-occluded brain of his.)
I just hope that nobody is dumb enough to let that man on TV again for a while yet.
Wait, is Glenn Beck still on TV? So much for the “nobody is dumb enough” theory. (A man can dream, though! A man can dream…)
